Siliceous stone:
granite, slate, sandstone, quartzite, brownstone, bluestone
composed mainly of silica or quartz-like particles
durable
easy to clean
use mild, acidic cleaning solutions
Calcareous stone:
marble, travertine, limestone and onyx
composed of mostly calcium carbonate
sensitive to acidic cleaning products
may require different cleaning procedures
Common Sense Approach to Cleaning and Care:
coasters are your new best friend (especially for alcoholic or citrus drinks)
keep trivets or mats handy for hot dishes or plates
seal your granite every one to two years
